This month, we celebrate Fathers and Summer Solstice (the longest day and shortest night of the year). We celebrate the men who loved our mothers and those who raised us. For some of us, this is the same person. For others of us, there have been several key men in our lives. This month, especially on Father’s Day, we celebrate the men who supported us in our childhood and those who lovingly encourage and stand by us today as well. On a personal note, I honor my adoptive father, Russ Dean, who raised me from 9 months on and taught me how to play backgammon, drive the riding lawn mower, and play piano duets among many other things.
Book of the Month:
The Tao of Pooh and The Te of Piglet
by Benjamin Hoff and E.H. Shepard
Quotes of the Month:
I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father's protection.
~Sigmund Freud
Any man can be a father. It takes someone special to be a dad.
~Author Unknown
It is not flesh and blood but the heart which makes us fathers and sons.
~Johann Schiller
Powerful Question of the Month:
How will I father myself today?
How will I show appreciation for those who have fathered me?
How do I honor the sun energy in my life?
Challenge of the Month:
Each day, consciously choose to be a “father” to someone in some way. Support and encourage the dreams of others. Teach someone a skill you have mastered. Make a financial contribution to something you believe in.
I realize that I have portrayed fathers and mothers (from my May blog) in a very stereotypical way. This reflects my upbringing. I ask that you look at the archetypes of mother and father that reside in you as well as the actual individuals.
